Volkstheater in Paris (ab 1937/39 im Palais de Chaillot), das zu mäßigen Preisen einem bis dahin vom
Theater nicht erreichten
Publikum klassische und
moderne Theaterstücke präsentierte. Unter der
Leitung von J. Vilar (1951-63) erlebte es
internationale Anerkennung. Nach einer
Reorganisation (1972) hat das TNP seit 1973 seinen Sitz in
Villeurbanne (Leitung:
R.
Planchon, bis 1981 mit P.
Chéreau). Die ehemalige Spielstätte des TNP wird seit 1973 vom Théâtre National du Palais Chaillot bespielt.
